Latin Language: Are my grades high enough to become a Latin teacher?

by Beth
(London)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I currently study Latin in University and I would love to teach the language someday. However I'm just not sure if my grades are good enough. In first year (beginners) my average was 89 then for intermediate it was 78 and for further Latin I just got 70 in the exam but for the second part of the course my average is 79. What do you think? Is this good enough? Should I be getting higher?

Dear Beth,

Latin is for those who seek it. If you desire to become a Latin teacher, simply keep practicing your reading and writing, and even your listening and speaking, in the language.

Your grades are not material to your long term success. And there is currently a HUGE SHORTAGE of Latin teachers, at least here in the USA.

Hope this helps, and thanks for asking a Latin teacher.

Sincerely,

John
