Vocabulary: The Gift

by Margaret
(Schulenburg, TX)

Dear Latin Teacher,

How do you say "The Gift" in Latin?

Sincerely, Margaret

Dear Margaret,

The Latin word for gift is donum. The definite article 'the' doesn't really exist in Latin. The most likely equivalent would be to add the demonstrative pronoun illud onto the phrase.

And so, The Gift would be Donum Illud.

Hope this helps, and thanks for asking a Latin teacher.

Sincerely,

John
