Latin Translation: I Trust in God

Dear Latin Teacher,

Can you help me with the Latin translation of "in God I trust" - would that be 'In Deum confido' ?

smashing site - I shall visit often!

nathalie

Dear Nathalie,

For classical Latin the preposition is not used: Deo confido. Here, Deo is in the dative case because confido is intransitive.

If you do use a preposition, as in Latin of the church, try: in Deo confido. Here, Deo is in the ablative case with the preposition.

Hope this helps, and thanks for asking a Latin teacher.

Sincerely,

John
