Latin Translation: Gift...by the grace of God

by Jillian
(San Bernardino, CA)

Dear Latin teacher:

Can you please translate this from English to Latin:

for it is a gift you have been saved through faith, this did not come from yourselves, it is by the grace of god.

I know that "by the grace of god" can be translated with 'Dei gratia' but can you please translate the beginning words.

Thank you, Jillian

Dear Jillian,

Here's the Latin, from Ephesians 2:8

Gratia enim estis salvati per fidem, et hoc non ex vobis: Dei enim donum est

My literal translation back to English: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves: for it is a gift of God.

Hope this helps, and thanks for asking a Latin teacher.

Sincerely,

John
