Latin Translation: Essence of Light, Dark
Hi, I'm currently writing a novel in which I'm using several Latin phrases. I'm a little confused about the gender of some words, and would like to check if the phrases are correct overall.
Phrase 1. Essence of Light - is this Essentia Lucis or Essentia Lux (for the title of a female)?
Phrase 2. Essence of Dark - is Essentia Tenebris the correct term (also for the title of a female)?
Your first phrase is correct. Essentia lucis
means essence of light.
Your second one might read essentia tenebrarum
, where tenebrarum
is genitive plural meaning of darkness.
Hope this helps, and thanks for asking a Latin teacher.
