Fortune Favors the Brave

by Peter
(Denmark)

My friends keep claiming that "Auditor Fortuna Juvat" means or can mean "Luck/Fortune Honours/Favours the Brave".

I claim that if anything "Auditor Fortuna Juvat" means "Luck honors the listener/hearer".

I know that the proper way to say it would be "Audaces..." (the brave) or "Audentes..." (the bold), but they keep clinging to "Auditor"

Thanks in advance

Hi Peter,

You are right. Your friends are probably using an automated online translator.

Hope this helps, and thanks for asking a Latin teacher.

Sincerely,

John
