Correct motto translation: What is life if not a dream?

by A. Tong
(New York)

Dear Latin Teacher,

I have a personal motto that I've been using for a while now, and I want to make sure it's correct.
My motto is "Quid est vita, nisi somnium?"
In English I mean, "What is life, if not a dream?" derived from Lewis Carroll's "Life, what is it but a dream? "

Is my translation correct?

Please reply soon. Thank You.

Dear A.,

Yes, your translation is correct. What is life, if not a dream?

Sincerely,

John
