carpe librum

by Rita
(Los Angeles, CA)

Hi. I would like to use a playful catch phrase for my fellow bookworms. I've seen online that "carpe librum" supposedly means "seize the book" or "enjoy the book". Can you please confirm if either of these is correct? Otherwise, what would be the correct translation?

Thanks in advance!

Dear Rita,

Carpe librum does indeed mean seize the book. Have fun with it!

Thanks for asking a Latin teacher,

Sincerely,

John
